I was just diagnosed with a left base of skull mengioma on june 4, 2017. My information was presented by a tactless hospitalist at the end of an unrelated hospital stay. "You can go home now. Oh yea, by the way you have a brain tumor and you've had it for a while". He then walked out of my room I then saw a cosulting neurologist who kindly explained. I had a ctdone in 2013 fro a car accident which showed the initial menigomA and no one ever told me even though it was in the report. The Ct I had done on June 3,2017 showed the current status where it had grown I immediately saw my neurosurgeon. Due to a rather checkered medical history we both decided surgery would not be my first choice. I met with a radiation oncologist who is currently following radiation treatments which started July 5,2017. I was introduced to meningioma mommas by a nurse that I worked with who also had the m. I am also nurse thank you for your wonderful support I recommended this book to my son and daughter adults to help them gain understanding. Ps. I also do not like the term it's benign, it's not a brain tumor and it's the best kind of tumor you could have!!!!

Great book. Truly helped me understand something that I was going through myself.
Liz Holzemer does a wonderful job of writing her testimony in a way that is both informative and entertaining to readers of all sorts. I recommend this short novel to anyone who is dealing with a brain tumor personally or through the role of a caretaker for someone else diagnosed, because Holzemer discusses her journey throughout diagnosis, surgery, and recovery. This book is full of a wide range of emotion; those of fear as well as humor. While using her husband's career as a major league baseball player to add comicality to the serious subject, Holzemer also portrays the various emotions that go hand in hand with encountering this sort of medical trauma. Before reading this book, I had no idea what meningioma was, let alone, the hardships and struggles brain tumor patients must face to overcome their illness; however, Holzemer's true and honest depictions of her journey, the explanation of various medical terms and knowledge, as well as "Liz's Brain Tumor Manual Defined" in the back of the book proved very informative. Overall, this book is a very inspiring, enjoyable read.
All I can say is thank you for writing this book, Liz! For anyone who is dealing with a life changing diagnosis, Liz does a wonderful job of providing perspective, information no one tells you, and does so with a bit of humor. I found myself laughing and crying at the same time!
I had surgery for a brain meningioma on August 24, 09. A girlfriend of mine sent me a link to Liz Holzemer's book review. I ordered the book, reading it non-stop until the end. I was truly amazed at the similiarities, including finding the tumor by happen-in-stance. Her life aliments mimicked mine. This is a must read for anyone who has had this surgery or the family of a loved one facing it. Even though I tried to tell family and friends my thoughts and feelings, no one knows until they are being wheeled through those big operating doors, the fear. I tried to shower all with my outward sense of calm, while inside my heart was pounding through my chest walls. Before being sent into a chemical induced sleep, you turn your life over to God, knowing he has the plan for the rest of your life. I knew my medical staff and doctors were the best in the nation. So you sleep. Waking up to the smiling faces of your family and a doctor asking your name. As of now, I have slight lingering problems from the tumor and small tenticals still in my brain but I feel like the luckiest person alive. Liz's book helped me realize I am on a normal path to recovery....and that path takes longer than you would like. Patience.

Made me realize that the recovery after brain surgery takes time and that being diagnosed with a benign brain tumor can be a tumultuous time. I bought this book after I had brain surgery for my benign brain tumour. I wish I had found it after I was diagnosed, which was two years prior to my surgery. The sheer honesty of her words, with a sense of humour as well, described the journey from diagnosis to surgery to recovery in a way that allowed me as a survivor to know that my journey was OK - I was on the right track - I just needed to keep at it! Thanks Liz for putting your experience down in a place that gives other individuals going through the same experience a glimpse of hope and also such great resources at the same time. A great read!
This book is sooo well written and gives an excellent account of Liz Holzemer's personal journey with a brain tumor. This book in my opinion, is an inspiration to everyone that has any life changing illness. She relates her tricky ordeal in a straightforward and truthful way exposing her emotional state and brings quite a lot of humor to her story. I strongly recommend this book to be used as a manual for anyone who has a brain tumor, knows someone with a brain tumor as well as doctors, health care professionals, visiting nurses, psychologists...
I have undergone three brain surgeries and wished that someone had suggested this book when I first was diagnosed(mine was the size of a lemon)so I could have tackled it head -on so to speak. An excellent manual with pertinent information. A very enjoyable and enriching read.
I paid $9.99 for this edition. Is it an edited version of the hard-cover book? I read the book in less than 24 hours. I am a fast reader, but there wasn't much substance there, in my opinion. She was a good writer, and witty and has a nice sense of humor. She was on the mark with many of her experiences and descriptions of a meningioma and eventual surgery. But, there were no pictures to view. I felt was out in "left field" with this book. Had I known it was so "edited" I would not have purchased it. She promotes her website "Meningioma Mommas" quite a bit at the end. I joined it - but it doesn't relate much to my age group or issues.
