This is a pretty thorough listing of various crossovers in the Horror Genre; movies, tv, books, and comics. Alot of which you probably didn't know had actually occurred at various points, especially with the classic literary/Universal Monsters. Though if you're a big fan of Slasher Movies, and keep tabs on such news, then you probably know a great deal about some of their crossovers that have occurred in recent years.The only issue I have with this is that, like other 'crossover compendiums/encyclopedias', tries to fit it all into it's own little 'collective universe'. Thus they try to explain the sheer number of Draculas, Jekylls, Jack the Rippers, and Frankensteins that have been apart of crossovers for many many years. While some of the others have pretty plausible explanations (in the context of things)... the Dracula entries become one long practice in the term 'soul clones'. This was an idea coined by the Wold Newton/Philip Jose Farmer corners of fandom to explain all these different incarnations of Dracula that seemed to proliferate throughout their collected works. While it's a neat idea, (especially in regards to the Universal/Hammer movie stuff) it does get a bit tiresome after a while.
Still, a neat little read if you're curious about finding some slightly obscure books/comics to read or overlooked movies to watch. If you're into that kinda stuff, or like the idea of Crossovers, Shared Universes, etc. it's a pretty good buy. Otherwise, I'd probably steer clear.

Just to be up front, I was an unpaid contributor to this book, so while I have a personal interest init, I don't see a dime if it sells or doesn't.
That said, I really do think this is a good book. Like myself, Robert's interest in crossovers extends well beyond the limits of horror fiction, but for the most part he reigned it in to make this volume a genre-specific reference guide. Robert's format lines up his sources according to the dates they were published / released, and this feels right to me. It's not for everyone of course; many don't give a fig about horror, or don't want to suspend disbelief long enough to imagine that multiple, seemingly unrelated works of fiction share a reality. Others may appreciate the content, but prefer a format that places the stories in chronological order of when they take place, or alphabetical by title and/or author. I find that the way Robert set it up makes it a more palatable read. He also includes personal commentary on many of the sources he references, but does not discriminate against those sources he doesn't like; if a crossover meets his criteria, it gets mentioned, and as someone with tastes that vary wildly, I really appreciate the inclusiveness.
I've been something of a crossover nut since I was a small child. It's a simple pleasure I've never grown out of. It's very clear that Robert is one of my people on this front. This book oozes affection for the material he's discussing, and his enthusiasm is infectious.
The book is a fun read, reasonably exhaustive, and cleanly edited. I think that this book will look even better if it comes to a print edition. Ebooks are a tough format for encyclopedias, and this is one of the more readable ones i've come across. I love film encyclopedias, and a lot of them are a mess in the electronic format.
It is clear that the author has a lot more enthusiasm for some entries than others, but he makes no pretence that this is a scholarly work. This is one fan writing a long, daffy "Did you notice this" letter to other fans.
I recommend it to those who are, like me, huge fans of intertextual play, and who love horror.
If you're looking for a general encyclopedia of horror films, this isn't one, but I'm glad to have it.
useless book., info inside can be found anywhere on internet and printed out at library. the is all fluff. not worth the high price for it.
First off, this is NOT in any way an encyclopedia. The entries are chronological and there's no index. The author sets out to establish an interconnected "horror universe," and resorts to ridiculous mental contortions to make things fit. This kind of masturbatory excercise is fine for geeky message boards, but it doesn't constitute a reference work. I'm not just disappointed, I'm angry that I wasted my money on this chunk of undigested fanboy codswallop. The one-star rating reflects only that the cover art is appealing. Even the back cover copy doesn't make sense. Stay away!

Thorough -- very well researched. Mr. Wronski has tackled a weird subject in a humorous way. Must have for any crossover enthusiast.
